Alternative Meal Policy

Somerset Academy of Texas Child Nutrition Services strives to ensure that children do not go
hungry at school. Somerset Academy believes that proper nutrition is crucial for student wellness
and academic success; however, we also have a fiscal responsibility to maintain compliance
with Federal Guidelines. To meet this obligation, parents/guardians are responsible
for purchases made by their student(s) in the cafeteria. It is the responsibility of parents or
guardians to either provide their children’s meals or pay for the meals offered. Free & Reduced
Meal Benefits are available to families that qualify. Applications must be completed and
approved annually for meal benefits.

Elementary, Middle & High Schools
When a student's meal account becomes negative, the cafeteria staff and Somerset Academy of
Texas will notify the household. Low Balance and Negative Balance Letters are emailed
weekly as a courtesy reminder to fund your student(s) account. For payment arrangements,
please contact your cafeteria manager.

Students will be allowed a maximum of $10.00 (ten dollars) in meal charges. After a student
account has accrued this limit, an Alternative Meal at breakfast ($1.50) and lunch ($1.75) will be offered 
 with a designated menu entrée, a selection of side items, and a choice of milk. Students
will continue to receive Alternative Meals until all cafeteria charges are paid. No a la carte items
may be charged at any time.

The following forms of payment are accepted to ensure your student has breakfast and lunch
available

• Cash, Checks (no temporary checks), and Money Orders are accepted at your cafeteria.
• Credit Cards are accepted online at Linq Connect
