R. Michael Jones

Director of Child Nutrition Services

Mike Jones is the Director of Child Nutrition Services for Somerset Academies of Texas. Born and raised in Houston, TX, Mr. Jones grew up with close ties to the education community. In 2000, Mr. Jones graduated from the University of Houston at Clear Lake with a BBA in Management and qualifying credits for a minor in Spanish. He has worked in the food service industry for over 35 years and began his career in Child Nutrition immediately after graduation. Mr. Jones' primary responsibilities include menu creation, nutritional compliance, cost control, employee training and development, state and federal regulations compliance, and quality control, to name a few. Somerset Academies of Texas partners with a Food Service Management Company that provides product, food preparation, labor, and service. Mr. Jones also supervises contractual compliance and acts as the liaison between the food service provider and Somerset Academies. “I believe that we have an inherent responsibility to develop the whole student and proper nutrition plays a crucial role in the academic success of what are sure to be our future leaders.” -Mike Jones
