Child Nutrition Services

About the Department

Somerset Academy of Texas' (Somerset Texas) Child Nutrition Services department operates according to the United States Department of Agriculture and the Texas Department of Agricultures’ guidelines and policies that govern the National School Breakfast and Lunch Feeding programs. Somerset Texas Child Nutrition Services proudly serves more than 2,300 nutritious meals to students every school day.

Department Mission: Provide students high-quality nutritious meals, professionally served that inspire students to develop dietary habits that will improve academic performance and life-long health.

Department Vision: Somerset Academy of Texas Child Nutrition Service Department wants to be recognized as one of the premier Child Nutrition Services programs in the City of San Antonio.

Nutritional Requirements

Somerset Texas Nutrition Services takes great care in planning menus that meet the nutritional needs of our students.We strive to serve healthy schools meals following established strategies for menu planning and preparation as it relates to optimal nutrition:

  • Increase dark, leafy green vegetable offerings
  • Increase red/orange vegetable offerings
  • Increase variety of legumes
  • Increase fiber
  • Increase calcium
  • Reduce sodium
  • Reduce processed foods
  • Reduce sugar
  • Eliminate trans fats
